Understanding Urban Ecology: Tangible Ecosystem

Saturday, October 2311:00 AM—12:00 PMZoom

Want to learn about the components that make up our urban environment?

Join the SPL on for a family-friendly, hands-on, virtual workshop that encourages urban explorers of all ages to get outside and pay closer attention to the world around them. In this workshop, you'll learn to recognize living (biotic) and non-living (abiotic) factors, both of which coexist to make up our urban landscape!

Reserve a space for you and your group, and pick up a kit at the library the week of October 18.

We'll meet for an introductory Zoom and orientation on Saturday, October 23 at 11 AM. Then, you'll head out for a field exercise during the following week, and we'll meet again on Saturday, October 30 at 11 AM to talk about our explorations and share what we've collected.

Created by the Public Library Innovation Exchange (PLIX) in collaboration with the MIT Media Lab, the Understanding Ecology workshop series was originally designed for middle grade students, but is engaging and fun for urban explorers of all ages. Grab a buddy and go exploring together!

This program is made possible through CARES Act funding to Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services as administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
