Join Zoey Sugerman-Brozan, an eleventh grader at Meridian Academy, as she breaks down the history of NASA during the Nixon administration and why we’re still struggling to reach the Moon. She has spent several months researching the history of NASA’s decision-making process in that “post-Apollo” era, and now she is presenting her conclusions as well as laying out an alternate history timeline in which NASA got all the funding it could want.

Afterwards, there will be a moon viewing through the MAMO (Meridian Academy Mobile Observatory), assisted by astronomy teacher (and Somerville resident!) Alex Trunnell.

Please be sure to include your contact info in case of changes with this event due to weather.

About the Presenter:

Zoey Sugerman-Brozan is a 16-year-old self-described “space mega-nerd.” When she’s not in school making every project somehow connected to space, teaching Model UN, or playing the drums, she enjoys playing Kerbal Space Program, searching through obscure old NASA technical reports, and doing rocket science for fun.

Zoey's teacher, Alex Trunnell, has been teaching about space for almost a decade in schools, museums, and observatories. Her astronomical research is in exoplanet detection, and she has used big telescopes with both Vassar College and MIT to hunt for extraterrestrial life. She is currently a Math, Science, and Technology teacher at Meridian Academy in JP.
