Speak On It: A Social Engagement Art Workshop for Teens and Tweens with ZNT Arts
Wednesday, November 13:00—4:30 PMAuditoriumCentral Library79 Highland Ave, Somerville , MA, 02143
Artist Zahirah Nur Truth of ZNT Arts will facilitate a workshop on social justice that honors identity creative expression as a tool to empower young people to speak up against injustice in our communities and the world around us. We will use text art inspired by contemporary artists using our own voices to create mini protest signs/banners along with sticker slaps. We will explore art making techniques related to comics and more. This event is limited to 20 participants on a first come, first served basis.
This event is part of Somerville Reads, an annual program that promotes literacy and community engagement by encouraging Somerville residents to read and discuss the same book. The book selected for 2023 is Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You by Jason Reynolds, which is a young adult adaption of Stamped From the Beginning: the Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America by Ibram X. Kendi. For more information about Somerville Reads, visit: https://www.somervillepubliclibrary.org/adults/somerville-reads-2023
