Gallery @ SPL Presents: Narrative Spaces with John Ruymann
Thursday, December 127:00—8:30 PMAuditoriumCentral Library79 Highland Ave, Somerville , MA, 02143
This month, the library is pleased to display the artwork of local artist John Ruymann in the Gallery @ SPL with their exhibition: Narrative Spaces. Please join us for a reception celebrating the exhibit.
About the Exhibit:
Drawing on inspiration from fantasy, pop culture, and science-fiction media, I paint digital landscapes. My artwork asks questions about untold stories: where is this represented landscape? who is this figure? what happens next? My process seeks answers in the suggestions brought forth from the rendered space. As an artistic exercise, I will often respond in writing to my drawn work, using a phrase or description from Frank Herbert, Isaac Asimov, or J.R.R. Tolkien to describe compositions existing otherwise as fantastic impossibilities. Like the written word, my drawings tell stories. Expansive sceneries hint at the unknown resting just beyond the visible. Spaces for the imagination lie at the periphery of your view, atop a precipice, within a mist-blanketed valley, or on the spinal cord of a never-ending mountain ridge.
About the Artist:
I am a local teacher and artist. The world building and settings in fantasy and science fiction have fascinated me for most of my life and this is where I draw inspiration in my digital landscapes.
