The library is pleased to display the artwork of local artist Susan Schur in the Gallery @ SPL with her exhibition: Mindscapes X: Changing Perceptions. Please join us for a reception celebrating the exhibit. Registration is encouraged, but not required.

About the Exhibit:

Susan E. Schur employs various techniques of utilizing oil paint on paper and board to create works that provide exciting, multi-layer visual experiences, with each viewer becoming an active participant in the realization of the vision presented. Since the eye of the beholder responds to the memories that the person stores in his or her brain, the image “seen” can be a varying one, dependent upon what memory is triggered by the viewer at a specific moment. Other viewers may have other images revealed as they look at her paintings with their perceptions being formed by their own remembrances.

In other words, her paintings pose the challenging question of what is the “reality” of a painted image? The iconography and delineation of a painting result not only from the artist’s imaginative interpretation and innovative interplay of lines, forms, and color, but also from the beholder’s highly subjective “reading” of these combinations of shapes and hues as these are filtered through that individual’s mind.
